It was a star-studded night at Xavier University’s Cintas Center as Gilbert Richards was posthumously honored as a 2017 Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame for his dedication, hard work, community service, family and commitment to excellence.
On hand to celebrate the evening were the four owners of Richards Industries: Charles (Sheryl) Page, Bruce (Pam) Broxterman, Bill (Kelly) Metz, and Jason (Michelle) Cooper.
Accepting the award on Gil’s behalf was his wife of 49 years, Mary Richards.
Gil loved people. He was a friend to many and kind to all, always thoughtful and generous. Gil was loyal and faithful, and was a classic gentleman of the old school order. He was also curious; he loved to learn and strove to improve himself daily. His tireless work ethic, stamina, determination, honesty and integrity inspired those who knew him and many employees of Richards Industries. Gil will be remembered for one of his sayings: “I try to make at least one person happy every day”.
Junior Achievement of OKI Partners, Inc., in cooperation with Cincinnati Museum Center, established the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Business Hall of Fame in 1991 to honor past and present business leaders for their outstanding business achievements and their contributions to the quality of life in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky community. This event is unique in that it pays tribute to business leaders through the partnership of two organizations, one oriented toward youth and producing tomorrow’s leadership, and the other dedicated to preserving Cincinnati’s past. The laureates selected have not only risen to the pinnacle of success in the business world, but also have been pioneers in their industries. They have demonstrated a tradition of excellence and achievement, as opposed to unique, one-time efforts.
